Remote Start
I have a Viper 5000 alarm on my F-350. I am about to buy a 2009 F-150 and want to put the same style of alarm on that one so I can use the same keyfob. I am wanting to put remote start on the truck, but I am thinking of doing it with the alarm instead of the factory system. Has anybody done this before? I have been told you need a special module for the remote start on the alarm to bypass the security of the truck...does Viper have this module? Or, would I be able to use the factory remote start system with an after market alarm?

Good luck with speaking to the viper people. I been trying with clifford. Same company and they still keep telling me there's no dam module avalible for the platinum truck even though i seen a member on here get one fitted. They said that it can be piggy backed from the ford remote start system but it's a bodge way of doing it. Im gonna try viper and see if they say anything different.

To save money, I'm buying everything myself online and then I'm having a certified installer put it in my truck, but he's going to do it as a side job for me on a weekend. Luckily I found this guy who was willing to do this. anyways, he told me to get the Directed PKFM bypass module for my truck. (Directed is the parent company of Viper)
You can find that bypass module on ebay for around $45 shipped.

Awesome, thanks for the tip. This bypass module doesn't reduce the integrity of the alarm in anyway does it? Can you still get starter kill and have remote start at the same time? Sorry if these questions are a little ignorant.

I think all of systems have the starter kill and they are not affected. I'm no expert but I think the bypass module is just momentarily activated when you press the start button in order to start the truck. Your truck is still protected by the alarm at all times.
As far as the rumored code-hopping security only in the Platinum model, I asked my installer about it before and I believed he checked and did not find any known bypass problems. But I just sent him an email again about this and I also just emailed the Viper tech line to see what they say (if the PKFM bypass module will work on my Platinum or not).

well, Viper just replied back to me extremely quick after I asked if there are any bypass issues with the Platinum. Here's what they said:
