I have been looking around for a while at different brands of remote starters for my truck, Scytek, ultra, viper and after a week of looking I’ve made up my mind on the Code Alarm CA530. It has everything I was looking for and more. And for anyone that does not know this is the same brand Ford uses when you order it as a factory option, hence the key fob looks so much like factory. Code Alarm and ford teamed up and made this model specifically for ford vehicles.
Total cost for the remote start and bypass was 200.00 and change plus shipping, this was about one hundred dollars cheaper then my local ford dealer wanted which was for the remote start only, plus they wanted 250.00 for installing it.
And after looking in the forum search, I saw that someone had recommended kcautosound.com before. After reading the testimonials on his site I knew this was the place to buy from.
What is really cool is that he (Travis) is pre wiring it for my truck, and can for any ford vehicle and sending detailed installation instructions with pictures, this should make installing it very straight forward.
I should get the unit Tuesday and will be installing it Wednesday. I will take pictures of the install and post up on how it went.
Yep, it's been like that for many years now, Code Alarm makes the Ford systems. I installed one myself in my 2002 Sport Trac. But I then paid the local stereo shop the Ford dealer uses to install the CA530 in my 2004 F140. They only charged me $100 for installation and I bought the CA530 on ebay for $70 shipped.
I'm sure Travis's instructions are great, but you can find the Ford instruction manuals on this website: www.gemsen.com/ford
It should be easy to install. looks prettty straigt forward. i had to rewire mine because the dealer installed and the truck wouldn't start (still doesn't) -thing is a nightmare. But I think its just a botched install. If I were to do it again I would install myself.
