It should be in the rear end, not the trans. RB

Depending on the year, the speedometer sensor was moved from the transmission and incorporated into the anti-lock brake sensor circuit mounted in the rear end, even if your vehicle did not have anti-lock brakes.

If your truck has no need for the C6 trans speedo, the ford dealer trans mechanic should have a few slick looking transmission shipping plugs for the hole (I still have one or two), or just pull the gear off the speedo shaft so it does not continue to wear.

Hey RB, back to the original post, how involved was your E4OD to NP swap? We might end up going that route.

I'm still a little lost with the whole purpose of the master and slave cylinders. I thought they were only for larger transmissions. Would that mean my '78 has a similar setup since it also has a 435? I was thinking that the clutch was all manual linkage on the smaller trucks. What do the cylinders actually do?

Basically the slave and master replace the manual linkage. When you push in the clutch you compress the master cylinder. It sends brake fluid threw a line and pulls or pushes the slave cylinder and it releases the clutch. One system uses linkage the other uses hydraulics. RB

This next question is a bit of a long shot but since np435s are just about a dime a dozen, is there a chance that one could be made to fit the diesel block, or is a T19 required for that? It would be nice if all that was required was a new bellhousing and a manual linkage along with a junkyard stick to "cure" the automatic transmission problem. Again I just think it would suck to part out any truck housing a diesel, but no one wants to spend more than what the trucks actually worth to get it moving again.

I have 2 trucks with 435's and I too have wondered if a T19 belhousing would bolt to it. If i had to guess I would say yes because both of my 435's have a early Bronco 3 speed bell housing, so I'm guessing they all used the same pattern. I have been looking for some time for a Diesel T19 bell and have not been able to find one. I myself think the liquid clutch would be easier to install than the linkage but that just my oppinion. My 94 PSD has a very high milage ZF and I have wore out first and reverse by plowing snow and so at some point it's going to die. I have access to a cheap T19 but no bell housing. I just cant see replacing the ZF as it's worth about what the truck is. RB

The 4x4 C6 does not have a spot for a speedo gear. That is ONLY in the 2wd tailhousings, not even the hiboy c6 set up for a divorced case had a speedo drive.
The speed sensor is either taken off the rear axle tone ring, or the transfer case. If it was off the transmission, the speedometer would not be correct in low range.
The transfer case should bolt right on with no modifications to the transmission.
