I know I've seen a handful of posts with people swapping their fog bulbs for 9005 bulbs to get better lighting. Seems some of the risk in this is the extra power draw on the wiring and the extra heat possibly melting the light.
I see these kits all over ebay for HID replacements for the 9005 bulbs as well, cheap ones around $60. Is it possible to swap in HIDs into the foglight? I know the foglight is pretty shallow, so I don't know if the HID bulb would run into the end or not.
But if it fits, seems like a low cost way of adding more light with low power draw and low heat - ha,sounds too good.
So DOT issues aside, any idea if it would work?
The ballast are usually the spot that gets skimped on with the cheap lamps. You would have to mount them securely in a dry cool spot, if the leads are short that will make life much harder.
So you think the bulb would physically fit at least?
Lots of them out there, $60 just seemed to be the low end. Mounting the ballast would be a challenge, guessing the leads aren't long enough to get them up too high in the engine compartment - so best not to go blasting through mud and water puddles.
