MSD Blaster coil setup

Hey I just got a new blaster coil for my truck and it says to install a ballast resistor with it. I've got a DSII with the factory control box, do I need that resistor (I thought they were only for points) and if so how would I wire it in.

I could have sworn even the DSII setups used a ballast resistor (or was it a fusible link?) - can't remember if it's inline feeding the ignition module or not. Is the coil in question an aftermarket replacement for a points ignition or electronic? The only thing the ballast resistor does is limit input voltage to the coil / ignition - unless the coil you got is sensitive to higher input voltage, it shouldn't be an issue, IMO.

Well I've never seen a ballast resistor on it before but since they're so cheap and easy to put in I'll just run one for safety sake. Oh and the coil doesn't specify points or electronic.

Here's a link about using an HEI module, which limits current internally, instead of the duraspark module. Eliminating the ballast resistor

Well I got the new coil and resistor wired in today along with recurving my distributor thnx to Harte3's advice. Felt quiet a nice little extra pep in the throttle and pull in the lower revs. Again thnx for the advice guys.
