Whats a good coil for DS ignition?

I just finished converting my truck to Duraspark ignition and I want to upgrade my coil and wondered what I should go with. I like the MSD blaster 2, but wondered if I needed the ballast resistor for it?

Depending on which DS system you used it should already send less voltage to the coil. IF you used the horseshoe style connector for the coil you can use this one. Did you take a complete harness/system off a donor truck?

The DS system was quite capable as supplied by the factory. I'd get a good quality OE replacement coil for whatever year the rest of your system, especially the box, is coming from. Not sure on the ballest, but same idea... if applicable use the same year replacement resistor based on the rest of your system. Inexpensive and eaisly serviced.

Unless you are running 11:1 compression and 6000 rpm a stock coil will provide all the spark you need and then some .

A hotter coil sounds good but it will not burn more fuel , burn quicker , or cleaner in a stock or even a mild built motor than a standard replacement .

Kind of like expensive spark plug wires , more sounds better but 9mm 1000* wires will not perform better than a decent set of 8mm wires on your daily driver .

Of course braggin rites and shiny parts are not a sin .

A 12 volt system needs about 3.25 ohms total resistance to the coil . Most coils have 1 - 2 ohms built in .

If your power to the coil comes from the Duraspark ignition box you have your extra resistance built in .

If you run your own power to the coil and use the Duraspark box just to ground the coil you will need to add a resistor .

If using an aftermarket coil , the best bet is to call the manufactures 800 number and ask a tech .

Thanks for helping me out here. I took the whole system off of a donor truck, but I have no idea what year it is I just know its a II cause it has a blue connector. I'll look into OE coils on summit.
