I've change regulators for my other cars using DIY instructions online from different car forums so I decided to do this my self for my truck.

I think they gave me the wrong one.

The bottom one is the one I took out, the top is what they gave me at autozone.

I've searched online and it seems as if it's the right one, but it looks nothing like the old one.

Any help is appreciated:

 

Top 1 is wrong. They all look the exact same. If you go to a thread I started called Power Window Problems you will find all the help you need in there. There are removing and installing instructions and also links to places where you can purchase them for considerably less than a dealership. I believe local auto parts do not carry the replacements yet.

I think you're right. Why wouldn't auto parts store carry it yet?

 

I believe a part has to be in high demand or a certain amount of years old before parts become available at local parts suppliers. This power window regulator problem is huge with the F150 for certain years. I hope Ford redesigns this huge flaw and doesn't ignore this problem if they haven't already.

the flaw you mentioned has been around since back in the 90s when we seen the first efforts of downsizing and attempts by manufacturers to cut weight. I have personally made plenty of spare cash changing these units out as the failure rate has been quite significant. IMHO ford must still own proprietary rights to these regulators as to the reason that they are not available on the aftermarket arena. Of the units i have changed out the one made by Hollander i have had the best experience with as far as fit and service life but lets face it they will all fail sooner or later which is the biggest reason that when i bought my 08 i did not want power windows, maybe i could be wrong but i think that when the window is in the up position it creates a lot of stress on the cables and the built in tension adjusters that cause early failure which is why i went to manual windows in my truck and when i roll them up i back off the handle just a touch to take the stress out of the system

 

The part was for the 2004 Heritage edition.

Only the stealership carries them (and had plenty in stock).

look at your vin plate and check the date. On your old one it should say left of right.

 

Send me your vin and I'll give you the correct Ford p/n for your truck. Dan.

Yes it is. It's just as safe as you call your local Ford dealer and giving it to the parts department. Use the PM system to send it to him. Do not post it.
