Rancho/Bilstein say their shocks are designed for use upwards mounted...but the Jeep community has been proving for years that shocks will work just fine upside down
Rancho/Bilstein say their shocks are designed for use upwards mounted...but the Jeep community has been proving for years that shocks will work just fine upside down
btw, why?
I mounted them the same as the shock came off....boot on bottom. A few of my fellow truck buddies said that it was wrong and we got into a debate... just wanted to make sure I wasn't making an *** of myself.
like I said, in Jeeps, you have to mount the rear shocks upside down on the TJ's...maybe the YJ as well. There isn't enough room by the upper mount for the shock body to clear, so you mount them upside down so the skinny part is up there
otherwise, I can't think of any reason to mount the "body" on the bottom...aka upside-down
I would think you could. I installed some Monroe Reflex on my '05 rears and it could have been easily done upside down but why woulld you want to. Even with a boot with the larger side down I would think it allows an area for dirt to collect and possibly work its way into the shock. Just a thought.
