how tall are the stock 1979 f250 shocks and how tall are stock bronco shocks? if the bronco shocks are taller couldnt i install them for a small lift if they fit?
If your truck has a small block v8 or 300 six cylinder and you can find a 79 with a big block engine (390, 429 or 460) in a junk yard you could grab the front springs and install them in your truck for a slight (approx. 2") lift.
Can't be done. You have an F-250 which uses leaf springs. The Broncos used coil springs. This is all assuming that you are talking about a 4 wheel drive.
the shocks are also different from a half ton/bronco to a 3/4 ton or heavier. different mounting styles. Not interchangeable. The rears are also different but they both mount with eyelets on the bottom. You can swap upper mounts and redrill the frame for them and swap 3/4 ton shocks onto a half ton, but as stated, it won't lift your truck any.
If you look at the price of moderate 1/2 lift springs and a pair of blocks you'll see its pretty darn cheap to do it using new parts, instead of trying to swap over junkyard stuff anyway. And junkyard shocks on a 30 year old truck would be a waste of money... too much of a gamble.
if you just want a couple inches cheap do a spring spacer in the front and a block in the rear and you can keep your shocks, brake lines, etc. The alignment probably will be a bit off up front but... its cheap. I've never messed with a 2wd and trying to lift it but we do have a few members that have, mainly in the southwest area where the desert thing is big. You might some info doing a search or at least do something about a 2wd lift in the title.
Yes, as stated above lifting twin I-beam trucks is a little bit tricky. A couple of inches of lift shouldn't throw your alignment off too bad. With a lot of lift you will have to get bent I-beams.
