My '07 black XLT Screw has tinted back side windows, but not the front sides.
What percentage of tint shade comes from the factory, so when I do the sides they will match?
I was told 25% but im not positive it was a while ago when I asked. I want to do the samething. I wanted to go darker all around but its illegal for anything on the front so I think I will just match the back one day.
That's what I have and it matches the factory rear. Take a look at page 5 of the "see everyones trucks" thread at the top...not the greatest picture, but you get the idea.
I just had mine done at a local shop and they did 15% on the front; Matches my supercab perfectly. I work closely with alot of cops in my area and the majority of them will tell you that tint is not even close on the list for violations. The only vehicles it becomes a problem on is the little race cars running around with limo tint on where you cannot tell how many passengers there are; Its more about their safety than anything else. In this day and age they are more worried about illegals, DUI's, and people with no insurance than anything else. I dont know how it is in your area, but here as long as its not over the top, the local fuzz usually leaves you alone.
I got 15% on my front windows because the tint guy brought up a good point about extra light from the windshield. 20% tint on the front windows would look lighter then the rear window tint. It's illegal to go darker then 40% in my state, but most cops don't care.
There's a guy on ebay that will sell the two front windows only, pre-cut to fit exactly, for $10, with $5 shipping. Trouble is, they would be 20%...which may be too light, according to the last couple posts. I think I'll take it to a good shop and let them do it, rather than risking something that may not match.
I have 5% in the front and "Brow" and put a layer of 15% on the back and they match identical. Agreeing with red04f150, most don't give you a ticket for having it, just use it as another violation to "add-on." ie. Speeding 1st Violation......Inspection,registration,tint,sound violation...you get the picture.....TEXAS HAS HARSH SUN YEAR ROUND!!!
I have seen in the police in my area use a knife and put a X across the window. Iowa does not allow anything more then factory tint on the front windows & they will pull you over for the tint only.

California cops have been known to do the same thing.
Isn't that destruction of property....a buddy of mine took a cop to court and had him personally pay for the damage to the glass and replace the tint.....
I understand where you guys are coming from that the dark tint looks better...but it's one of those times where the "Law is the Law" IMO
besides, the $249 ticket per window is plenty enough incentive for me. and that isn't a "Fix It Ticket"...you get charged for illegal tinting regardless, and then they apparently inspect your car if you take it to court. If it's still there, you can get another ticket
guess the moral of the story is do what is legal, and then wear sunglasses if you need more. I grew up in Texas and I know what y'all mean about the sun...but it really isn't that bad as people say

nope.
the law clearly states that the darker tint is illegal. the "X" insures that you don't just blow off the ticket and keep the tinting.
