ok i finished the rear portion of my explorer spring swap and now ive moved onto the front and i cant for the life of my find a wrench that will fit the big nut in the center of the coil spring!!!!!so far ive tried 27,30mm.....and and inch and a sixteenth and a inch and a eighth, the inch and a eighth fit but was too loose,im quickly become frustrated i need some help!!!
Also while ive got everyones attention.I was looking under the truck before i started messing with the leafs and noticed the truck DOESNT have a dummy transfer case on it like my other 2 broncos...anyone ever see a 1990 2wd manual tranny NOT have a factory dummy transfer case???
I do not know, but, I imagine it is metric. FWIW: I have a 1 1/16 socket, so they exist. I just do not have an Explorer handy to test it or any of the larger metric (28 etc.) sizes.
.
Well. Ive got all the parts for my spring swap as well. While I was at the wreckers I ran into the same problem but had a better look at the nut and it was covered in road grim and sand and what not was around the nut in the grooves of the spring retainer ( If you follow what I mean.) After cleaning all that out I didnt have any more problems. A 1-1/8" socket fit took some messing around putting the socket in but I did it after popping the top part off. I loosened it up first with a 1-1/8" wrench. Lil bit tight but not a real problem.
Do you already have the factory blocks for this job? My truck doesn't have the factory blocks so Im thinking I may end up with a bit more of a lift then expected. Also I was told to add the coil spacers off a F-150, I havent had any progress in finding any of these. Do you know if these are sold at Ford or can you find them in the bone yards?
Good luck at the job ahead of ya.
well after letting the nuts sit overnight with pb blaster on them, buying a quality 1-1/8 wrench and a few cuss words the explorer spring swap is done and looks AMAZING,once i get my new tires and front end put back together ill post some pics...oh and wolf i didnt mess with any spacers i left the factory stuff on there and the lift ended up being 100% equal front and rear.I think i got the heavier duty spring pack from the yard cause the lift almost looks like more than 2in.but my factory springs were in pretty bad shape so theres no telling!!
Thatd be cool ta see some pics. Have you got some before and after? Dont forget ta get a close up of the springs in there.
Yeah Im coming up with the conclusion of maybe not putting the spacers in either. But I do have some 2" lift blocks outa my old 150 that Id love ta get some 2" coil spacers for the front. But @ $130 a pr USD I dont realy know.
But its like I say man be awesome ta see your pics.
