The seat in my '54 has too much fore and aft play. It looks to me that it's primarily on the passenger side. I can push the seat back and forth about an eighth of in inch. That doesn't sound like much but if feels like much more to the passenger. I have tightened all of the bolts that I can see without any improvement. Is there a fix for this? I've searched here and looked through my service manual but I haven't found a solution. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks
I no longer have an original bench seat and can't remember the mechanics of them but was wondering if there was a spring that has too much slack in it. I'll check to see if there is anything in the manual and get back to you. You might want to check if some of the bolt holes have worn out to an oval shape from use over the years.
Edit; just checked the manual and there is nothing that would help you.

I don't know if your '54 is a similar design to my '50 but I found that changing the angle of the seat tracks (move the front of the right track left or right in relation to rear) and move one track fore or aft in relation to the other track (my mounting holes are slotted) changed how hard or easy the seat moved.
Thanks Pete. I've been bolting up my restored bed so I haven't worked on the seat. I'll take a look at this today. A quick glance didn't show a slotted hole but there is a washer under the bolt. I pull that bolt out and check today.
