I used blaster on mine ,let them set out in the hot sun for a day,and used a small flat blade screwdriver to gently pry up with and they slid right out in one piece.
Sam found your old post here. Have a 54 F100 i need to just replace the vent wing handles really. I have the whole kit of seals etc if it is easy enough but the handles are what i really want replaced as one is broken off.
Do i have ot go through all the glass removal process which sounds like a pain...to replace my handles only or is there an easier way?
Len
You don't have to take the wing frames out of the truck if you just want to replace the glass. In fact, the frame loses its shape when it's out of the truck. Just pull the glass out, and stick in new. Both of mine nearly fell out once I started pulling on them; it's a tapered wedge. I used pliers padded with 1/8" thick rubber and wiggled up-down-in-out. If someone glued them in with urethane (what some glass shops use), it may not be so easy.
Yeah, I know it's an old thread.
I'm just doing this vent window job right now. A real PITA it is.
This one definitely didn't "nearly fall out"..... no amount of razor blading that 70 year old rubber or yanking or cussing was going to make my glass pull free from the vent frame. After 3 hours of el mickey mo I finally took an automatic sheet metal punch and ran it all the way around the glass, duct taped the glass together and yanked that mess out of there. I took another 1/2 hour to clean the glass remnants (inner/outer and laminate) out of the frame and wire brush the rubber gasket crap stuck to the frame.
