Rt vent window handle, what part breaks?

What part normally breaks on the black plastic locking vent window handles when the vent handle is forced open without pushing the button in?

Is it the metal button here?

Or the handle itself seen here?

looks like there is a roll pin that goes through the vent latch that has to be removed. I would think the pin needs to be done with a fabricated too because a hammer and drift punch might break the vent window..
Any ideas?
I am thinking a channel locks or C-clamp and a small short hollow metal tube of some kind so the roll pin can go up into it while pressing it out, and a short pin just a little smaller then the OD of the roll pin to use to press the roll pin out with.

I took a group of people to a party and the guy sitting in the front seat opened the vent without pushing the button in first and broke it....
#$$### same guy broke the electric door lock button on my GMC van last year when I gave them a ride to another party... He was trying to get the window down then and thought it was the lock button was window button and when the window didn't go down, he thought he needed to push harder..

Having done more than a few of these on all sorts of vehicles its better to replace the entire mechanism if its been manipulated as you describe Annaleigh. By that point the inner recess is probably worn, replacing just one part not all that effective. I'm sure that latch comes in a kit, see if they're still available NOS or hiding on some dealership's dusty shelf.

The roll pin can be removed with a roll pin punch---a normal flat nosed punch doesn't work too well for removal. Re-installing that pin is a bit of a challenge since the part you show is spring loaded, the outer latch needing compressed so the pin fits through the latch holding it all together.

I've used a large pair of Channel-Lock pliers acting like a press of sorts. The pin isn't hard to move but careful alignment of all parts is important.

Doing this with the glass still installed is a bit more challenging due lack of working room. Proceed carefully as that's tempered glass, one wrong move and you'll be looking for a new piece.

BTW you need to find a slightly less rowdy group of passengers!
