I am a little new to the diesel truck thing I know other brand trucks you can stack chips and programmers. Is it possible with my 1999 7.3L to stack it?
There isn't a reason to stack if you use a correctly tuned chip or programmer. It is best in my experience not to stack either because a quality chip will have what you need. When you are ready to shop let me know, I would be happy to help. Welcome aboard
I have a ts now after trying a dp the seemed to heat my tranny up so I switched to the ts on the temp has been fine. Just wondering if stacking would help with more power? Or if it would do more harm than good.
Stacking is not really possible with a 7.3. You either have a downloader which changes the programming on the actual ECM, or a chip that physically attaches to the ECM's board and will take control, no matter what the programming is on the actual ECM.
In theory, you could add something like a 10K mod and run it with a chip, but there's no reason to as the chip will do what the 10K mod does and more.
Simply put, pick a good chip or programmer and run with it. No stacking necessary on the 7.3 engine.

So, you are saying there is a need to stack tuners and programmers on a chip that is tuned improperly, IE being something other than a DP Tuner chip?

Nope, because you can't stack chips and programmers together. Any chip will automatically override a programmer.
What Jeremy was referring to was a 10K mod, that simply fools the PCM into thinking the ICP pressure is too low, and bumps it up. The thing with any chip and programmer is that they already bump up the ICP pressure, typically to the point of completely maxing out the HPOP. So adding an ICP fooler won't give you anything else, if the HPOP can't put out any more oil than what it's already delivering.
On top of that, most chips and programmers have fueling tables, ICP tables, and timing tables well matched with each other. Throwing on an external ICP fooler throws those tables off, and you'll end up with nothing more than extra smoke and EGT's on the bottom end (and sometimes a major stumble off idle).
Just remember that a chip or programmer can control ANYTHING that you think you might be able to stack something else with. So wasting money on 'stackable' units is simply just going to empty your wallet more than anything else.
The only thing I've seen that a handful of people have "stacked" was a PCS controller for the transmission. This gives even more control over the transmission than what you can get through the PCM. I guess it wouldn't really be stacking, since the PCS controller completely takes over the transmission functions.

I'm more interested in the root cause of why he switched back to the TS. I suspect it's because he's getting more power through the tranny causing it to heat up more. What are your driving conditions? Are you towing or have a loaded bed? Mine now gets up to a max of 180-190 empty, but it was as much as 210-220 if I was hammering it in the 100* Texas summers (this was on stock cooling, before syn fluid and TransGo Tugger). With an upgraded cooler, shift kit, and tuning to match, I would bet that the tranny won't be getting as hot. Also, what are temps are we talking here?
Well thanks to all who have reposted You have help a ton. Now back to the dp tranny temps were around 215 Degree's empty. The tranny started slipping had it rebuilt by local tranny shop. When it was done they said that was to hot for every day use I took out the dp and tried a ts and it has been fine running around 140. Was something wrong with the dp? Will the dp build more power than the ts with a custom tune? I sold the dp but if there would a huge benifit to switching I would consider doing so. Thank you.
