So the other day I was driving the work truck, 97 f350, and it just crapped out in the middle of the road. It turned over but had no tach movement, I figured it was a cps. Swaped that out by no beans, which leaves me to think that it's something computer related, but then again there was no CEL but I don't I know if the PCM would set one if it died. My question is can I swap my PCM and idm out of my truck into the work truck to narrow down the search or not. Oh ya the work truck is a ZF and mine is an E4OD, I don't need it to drive just start.
just incase that isntthe problem will I be able to swap the idm and the pcm frm my truck to the work truck?
yes you can do that. But there is plenty of other things to check before you get to that. Does the WTS light come on? smoke out the tailpipe? Oil level correct?
I didn't notice any smoke and I checked the oil about a week ago and it was at the proper level, granted that's a long time if it just sprung a leak. I did not look for the WTS light so I am not sure about that one. I will have to look tomorrow when I get to work.
I just found out a few more details. The WTS light does come on and shut off and I was told that they checked all the fuses, inside the truck and in the engine compartment. And they tried scanning it with a snap-on moudis scanner and they were getting no return signal.
Hey, sorry. ya it was the fuse in the engine compartment, stupid new mechanic at the who said he checked it but clearly he hadn't. As soon as I saw that I unplugged the heater and replaced the fuse an it fired right up.
