I have an unusuall situation here. I have a 72 F100 body on a 78 Bronco frame. I am having issues with the wiring of the steering column. The column is from the 78 and does not connect to the 72 harness. Can any one tell me the wire color to Wire color corallation in a 78 from one side of the column harness to the other. I have searched every where and cannot find the column side of the connector colors anywhere.
Check out autozone.com they have Ford factory manual scans online for free. You could
just go the multimeter route and compare it to the old columns readings.
Do you have a local library? A lot of libraries have tons of technical manuals for vehicles. Considering that you have a very custom job there (not one that's done every day for sure), you're probably on your own on that one.
Find the wiring diagram for a '72 and the diagram for the '78 and lay them side by side and match. What all is there to line up? Is it just the horn? Or do you have cruise as well? If it's just the horn, it should be pretty simple. You could almost just guess and check.
PS: A dilemma is when you have two or more choices and can't decide which to choose. Like, do I have beer or wine tonight?
The problem is the turn signal switch. I have wiring diagrams for both but not a diagram for the column itself. The wiring of the turn signals doesn't make sense to me due to the way that Ford wired them. I can use a multimeter as a last resort but trying to find a quicker way. All I really need is a good picture of the steering column harness on the chassis side and I can figure the rest out.
So, I see your dilemma now. Sorry, took me a bit... as long as you can determine which wires (colors) are coming down the column to the chassis, you should be able to get the switch and column wiring from one to work with the chassis wiring from the other. Is there any way to check wire colors and match them based on how they route from the switch? I can't imagine the actual circuit wiring is any different since I don't think turn signal wiring changed much at all before the advent of much more sophisticated electrical systems. I would think your worst dilemma is changes to the wire colors.
Another option would be a visit to a local junk yard? Just sit out there for a while with a note book, pull a steering column apart, and see which wires go to what.

That is where I was heading next....until someone at work offered up an entire 79 F150 wiring harness so I was able to cut the column harness off and created my own pigtail. All I need to do now is cut the old harness and splice in the pigtail for a plug and play set-up. Thanks for all the help guys!
Yes it is great....but most of all I now have brake lights that actually work. Still got to check the turn signals out, but the cold killed my battery so I can't check yet.
