The engine is made by international it is the #8 injector that is different. If the school buses had an extra 60hp everyone on FTE would be riding the short bus .
Dont knock the short bus! There's video of one out there that some guy chipped. He's smokin the tires up and down the parking lot with it. I wish I save the link

As I recall ONE of the reasons International gave for going to the split shot injectors was so the engine could run on JP8 jet fuel, big deal you say? Well it was a big deal to United Parcel Service.

man i wish the bus i took to school had that power...ours did have strait pipe exhaust at the time....we would always open the window by the tail pipe to here that 7.3 whistle..
Supposedly a "cleaner burn". A pilot shot is injected which gets the combustion started, then the rest of the fuel follows in the way Ron described. I would rather have more power & better mileage over a "cleaner burn", but that's what the tree huggin' fruits of the world have done for us.
Interesting, so we got a cleaner burn but use more fuel to do it. Am I the only one who thinks this doesn't make sense? Not seeing anything gained here. Nice bit of trivia though.

anything the EPA make these auto makers do make no sence at all..
i hear you on that..i think it was CAT that made a cleaner burn motor that got better MPG not useing the EGR....EPA said EGR has to be in place...its a money thing for them..
This is what happens when you have people in charge of gov't programs that don't have a clue (boy could I take this and run with it today ). You all know what a camel is, right? A horse designed by a committee.
