I have a 2000 F-350 with a 7.3. Once it gets warmed up it will knock. I recently had a injector put in it at a ford dealership. It has gotten worse since then. I took it back down there to have him listen to it he said not to worry about it that its preignition. He also told me it had aftermarket injectors in it. Wondering if the mismatched injectors had something to do with this. It only does this with it warm and idling.
doesnt sound good to me.
i would pull the covers to see whats up. most injector shops etch on the solenoids. i would confirm this is true and if it is you definitely wanna get another of that particulalr injector is in there.
I have the similar truck, engine and KNOCK. It is not Ford cackle. The truck had it. This different.Engine is quiet until warmed up. I have done all the fuel mods.
What type of oil do you use? How many miles? I called Ford and they wanted $127.00 to $150.00 for a fuel contribution test.I called a reputable diesel repair shop.I told them of the problem and recommended a computer diagnostic test which included a fuel contribution test,cost,$74.00. This test would determine if there is a bad or weak injector,or if there are bad or leaking Orings and locate the bad ones. I will be taking the truck to them in a couple of weeks.
Please let me know if you found out anything.
He also told me it had aftermarket injectors in it. Wondering if
i would concern myself with this. did he say aftermarket or reman injectors.
now the problem. say it does have bigger injectors in it. and you now have one squirting less (the stock ad) thats not too good. i guess it would be worse if it was the other way around.
I sure wish I could help you out but I haven't done anything with mine yet. Not sure where to take it. Also there were aftermarket injectors in there and they replaced one with a stock one not sure if i can believe him. I also forgot to say I did notice this a little bit before I had the injector put in but it got much worse after this. It also has a fuel pressure regulator on it which I have never seen and the ford mechanic has never seen. I dont understand why its on there if the computer regulates this. I also have an edge programmer hooked up. I put it back to stock and it still knocks so i don't think the programmer is at fault. Thanks for your replies.
run, run far away from that dealership. i would not trust any dealership that says your DIESEL is running bad because of PRE-IGNITION...
there is a spring that regulates fuel pressure on the side of the fuel filter bowl. it is NOT computer controlled. injection timing and pulse width are electronically controlled.
In your case I would pull the covers and make sure all the injectors are the same and that they are the ones that belong there.
I put in a fuel pressure regulater with a pressure gauge set to 62#.This eliminated the oem regulator.(factory set to 52#).
My truck had the cackle.Ford did their fix.It didn't help.I put it back the way it was,but still have the knock after the engine warms up. I have posted on different sites and knowone has been able to help me.I guess it's on to a diesel repair shop, other then F--d,for computer diagnostic
What type of oil do you use? The truck runs great.Mileage is decent. It starts easy, cold or hot. I have a DPtuner and the knock is there in all the programs including stock.
I have often wondered if the oil has anything to do with it,thinning out or loosing pressure. I have done all the fuel line mods, still the KNOCK,but it does run better and idles smooth.
I know there are many of us who have this KNOCK. Anyone out there who can help? PLEASE HELP!!!
