Question Emergency brake problem

I used the emergency brake on my 250 the other day and the cable broke on the passenger side. I went under and got it to release but the chime noise is driving me nuts. I won't have a day off to replace the cable for another week or more. It sounds like it is in the dash near the fuse panel. Where exactly is it and can i just pull it out? Thanks for any help.

Pull the release handle and pull up the pedal. Make sure the pedal is all the way up and release the handle and the dinging will stop. The pedal will stay unless you forget and stomp on it, then you will have to pull it back up again.

Seems like a common problem with the SD's. I found out the other day that mine is frozen, causing my e-brake to drag again. We had this problem or broken cables with every super duty at the office. They say that it is the de-icer that the county sprays on the road.

Yep, that de-icer is supposed to be "non corrosive" . Every thing that stuff gets into corrodes. I also wreaked havoc on aluminum wheels.

Thanks for the replies. The cable broke at the wheel. It actually engaged the brake then broke. I had to release it at the wheel. The other side released on it's own. Everything under there looks corroded. I thought I had the pedal up but maybe not. I would still like to know if the chime thing can be removed though. It sounds like it could be the same as the seat belt one.

You can disable the chime by unplugging the wire that goes to the switch at the pedal.

I pulled the wire off and the chime quit and the light went out. Great.
I will replace the cable, actually I should replace both of them maybe next weekend.
Thanks all.
