Question Emergency Brake Cable Broke: How Fix?

1999 F-250

How does one replace the emergency brake cable? Are there any tricks or tips to it?

The cable in the '99 F-250 I recently bought broke.

The cable was sticking when I got the truck. I like to use the emergency brake every time I park. The previous owner(s) didn't use the emergency brake and the cable had frozen up.

I tried using it every time I parked. I could tell it was frozen, but I was hoping it would loosen up. It held a little bit when I used it; but soon it just broke.

Where did it break? Mine broke at the pedal, I had to unbolt the pedal assembly to get it hooked back up but it wasn't too hard. There are several lengths determined by long bed , crew cab etc. I would get one from Ford because o'rellys gave me one that was to short.

depends on which cable broke, mine has 4. Need to remove the pedal assembly to replace the front cable. It is likely that that the rear cables are froze in which case if you broke the front, i would replace them all if the pedal is still stiff.

Right- there are 4 cables to the setup- 3 are jacketed and one is bare:
1) jacketed cable from pedal to about the front of the door.
2) bare cable from there to a little before the rear wheel well
3) jacketed cable to the LR brake
4) jacketed cable to the RR brake

The bare cable needs to match your configuration, such as single cab, extended short, extended long, crew short, crew long or Excursion. This seems to be the one that most often breaks, and if it is broken, TEST THE OTHERS for smooth operation through their jackets as well.
