I keep looking at pictures of installs on a few sites but there is not a rhyme or reason to where the axle bracket points. I've seen straight down, 45* forward, and 90* straight forward.
Opinions.
The brackets on the axle need to be pointing straight down. if you mount them on the front, they will just pivot up like normal and be useless. I believe if you take a look at my thread "The Truck Thread" somewhere in the later pages you can see pics of my ladder bars. If you can't find them, let me know.
How can procomp get away with the bolton brackets which go between the axle perch and block? The mounting point for the trac bar would be slightly above the centerpoint of the axle tube. I saw your pics.

I think the theory is the that the push is on the traction bar and the pull is on the spring with the brackets in the front.
We've tried the pull theory on our mud trucks. One link above the axle, still mounted to the frame the same way. Didn't work at all. Still had axle wrap all day long. But I think you are right Tom.
RubberDuck: I saw your pictures of your traction bars, I noticed you have square tubing instead of round. Is square stronger than round if they were the same size and thickness? What thickness is your front brackets, looks like 3/16". Of course sqaure tubing would be easier to notch for the bushings. Looks like you used 2x2 tubing, right.
I used 1 1/2" X 3" 11 gauge. And taper it to the bushing pipe. I used 1 1/2 pipe for my bushing ends. Not sure on the thickness of my front mount, but I need to gusset it, I know they flex. As far as stronger, not sure, but I just like to be different.
