I know about the different mounting styles (single or dual w/ shackle). I saw the bolt-on kit from pro comp, which mounts under the block above the axle pad. My question is what difference does it make to have the mounting point below the axle versus at the axle centerline like the pro-comp setup?
Im now leaning toward the weld-on style that mounts below the axle like neal posted. Im tired to having the pinion point to the sky while I try to accel hard. Im thinking of having greasable poly bushings on each end, it that good for a daily driver/hauler? Anyone know where I can get the brackets?
I made my own. The front brackets are welded to the fram and I reinforced the shock mounts in the rear for the rear brackets. The back connection is bolted through the original shock bolt location and through the bar. The front connections are hind joints with a 5/8 inch hole so that they have some ajustment. I have made bars like these for both trucks I have owned and have loved them. I will try to get some pictures up soon.
Not really Joe my old truck had a 4" ift and it did not take much away from the ground clearance. Mine also are not that long. They run from the shock mounts to the turn in the frame at the back of the cab at the same angle as the drive shaft. It does however take away from the articulation.
polyperformance.com has all the bushings and tabs for a street truck ya want the bars pretty long since shorter bars will limit suspension travel iirc 4' is enough on a stock hieght F350
Where can I get the weld-on brackets for the axle end? The axle is 3-5/8", correct? I can get tubing locally, what diameter and thickness is perferred? I can build the end that bolts to the frame.
Neal, thanks for the props. I use the same style in my truck, but use poly bushings to allow some deflection for the suspension. I have no issues with mine. Drives great on the road.
i made my own as well from stuff i had laying around. no they arent pretty but i still have plenty of suspension travel and virtually no wrap. holding up fine for 2 years now.
