Not sure if you have the two piece driveshaft like mine does, but all I did was unbolt the center bearing and drop it. That pulled the slip joint apart and allowed me to grease it, then put it back in the exact same spot. Mine was so stuck that all 150lbs of me hanging on the driveshaft wouldn't pull it apart!
Yes I do have the two piece driveshaft it connect with Slip Yoke which the part I would like to grease to solve the jerk or clunk feel at the take off but as mentioned the thing is so stubborn and didn’t want to come down without a fight, So I didn’t pry it or fight it without doing some research , With my luck I will screw it up and end up buying parts and go from simple grease job to u joint replacement …
... But it was so stubborn to come out and I didn't pry at all at the U joint by the slip yoke fearing I might screw something up ...So I put things back together and started my forum search
Mine just slipped out by hand. I can thank our warm So Cal winters I guess. If yours is going to be stubborn then you might as well pull the whole thing out and work on a bench.
Just make sure the shaft is not holding torsion between your parking brake and transmission. That's why I suggested putting the trans in neutral so the shaft is free to turn on one end. And don't forget the wheel chocks.
finally got the time to do it ,Job was so easy and took like 45 minute following every one advise , Greased every thing slipped boot back on, went for a test drive, Truck drive like a dream now smooth at the take of from stop and no jerk coming to stop Amazing what a little grease can do
Thanks to every one here if it wasn't for you guys, I would thought something seriously gone wrong with the rear end.Total coast $0
im haven trouble with my output shaft coming out of the trans taking out me center support bearing ( carrier bearing).
is this somhing yall have seen?
Is this a lack of grease causing my problem?
it was very dry. oh ya ive replaced all u joints and the bearing and it broke again and i looked and noticed that the output shaft was out like 2 inches further then it was when i put it back together.
Looks good. Will try it this weekend. Only hesitation is mine is a 1998 Ranger 4x4 automatic. Not sure which shaft has the slip yoke? Will keep looking on here.
I have a 2013 and was experiencing the infamous clunk upon take off. After reading this forum I pulled the slip yoke and greased it up with marine grade. What a difference! Take offs are now smooth as butter, thanks guys!
