ive got a stock 74 highboy that i am probably about to try and stuff 37's under (heard they will fit stock height but if not, i dont mind trimming some). anyway which would be the best setup for me? lookin like most people like the x-over steering. which box and pump should i use? i am planning on letting a local shop do it, just wanted to tell them which way it needs to be done.
I'm definitely going to try a x-over setup on mine when it's time. I already did the upgrade with the integral steering like the 78-79 F250 4x4s have, but still uses the push pull design. When I first started my project there didn't seem to be as much info on the upgrade like there is now about x-over setups (or I didn't search long enough). The push pull design works OK and I don't do any off roading, but I still would like a better design and after reading this topic in many threads, it sounds like it's the only way to go. Also, I'll wait until I ever find a D60 for my front.
do i have to have a dana 60 to do the x-over conversion? seems like i remember 75f350 saying something about it....if i do where the hell can i find one?
You can use a 44..not as strong as the 60...but it just depends what you are using it for...Cross over works better if you have at least a small lift (Highboys don't have a lot of room between frame and springs)...you don't want the springs smacking your steering or it could be all kinds of trouble.
I have searched all over the web, and the FTE forums seem to be the best. I have a 1975 F250 4x4 that has a 4" Skyjacker lift, Dana 60 front & rear and is rolling on 40's.........and manual steering. My winter 2011 project is going to be the infamous power steering swap.
I am leaning towards the Saginaw pump & gear with a cross-over setup like 75F350 has. I understand that the gear is from a 2wd Chevy - does anyone know what year(s) work?
Also, to those who have mounted a Saginaw pump on an FE engine (I have a 390) did you build your own bracket, modify one, or find one for purchase?
I am pretty handy with a welder & steel - fabrication is no problem. Just like working smarter not harder - that's all.
can anybody tell me what years chevy steering box to use? I have a 72 Chevy 2wd. It would be great if i could save the steering box off this truck and make it work without alot of trouble.
So basically im getting use a box off a 2wd chev (im assuming 80s solid axle will work?) Steering arm for the passenger side, and build a drag ling either with DOM tubing or cut down a chev tie rod? Truck is a 79 F-350, i have an 89 IDI diesel, will that pump work on the chev box?
I could spend a year learning stuff about Highboys on this site, and wouldn't scratch the combined knowledge of the contributors. I am so glad, when I started my project truck, that I stumbled upon this site.. I've owned my truck for 43 years, and have learned more about it in 2 weeks on this site, than in the previous 42.9 years.
Thanks to you all, and especially, to all you Highboy owners.

u could do the bronco box inside with the inverted t linkage and thats a good setup for street, without having to go to the total crossover and lift springs to clear on a high boy.
I was looking at RockAuto for "drag link" and pulls up "center link". What exactly is a "center link" vs "drag link"? Are they the same? The two images below are ones I pulled from the site. I prefer moog, but depending on the price, i may just go with Raybestos.
- Raybestos #4351037B
- Raybestos #4401005B
As always, all HELP is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
