I will download some photos to photobucket soon, and see if I can post them here for you. I ended up with a 78 F250 4x4 box, looks like the one you have pictured, but did not use it. I scored a rebuilt box off Ebay, for under $200 as I remember. It mounts to the outside of the frame, lined up with the steering, but had to shorten the connecting shaft, and the drag link. No problem, with either, and some schedule 80 pipe the right siZe. I flipped the pittman arm 180 deg, and it all lined up sweet. Works fine, misses the left front tire (and they are 325x75x17 Mickey Thompson Baja's.. so they are fat fat fat.. now let me see if I can download and post some photos..
I headed back to photobucket to download more...want to show you the drag link and pittman arm... Oh, I used the Saginaw (canned ham style) pump, and made my own brackets... Now I, with ND's help, found some stock brackets off E250's... and ordered them. Hey, he has been a continual help to plenty of us, and without him, we'd be way behind. Kudos many times over ND.
I welded spacers inside the plate, for the bolts to go through, and give the gearbox something thicker to bolt to. I also welded the plate to both the top and bottom of the frame, but not to the edge of the top or bottom, but about 3/8" in from the edge. You can see in the photos. With the gearbox on the outside of the frame, the pittman arm does not have to pass through the space between the frame and spring. Also, since it is not a cross over system, nothing has to pass through in that space. Works for me..
Good luck amigo, and keep us up on your progress..
if you think the steering box you got needs rebuilt. use it as a core and get a readhead rebuild it is something you will never reget.
No one has told me how much those RedHead boxes cost. So I think for now, i'd rather just run the one I have, especially since I still have to mark everything up and drill some holes.
