Are you sure you need to buy an HPOP? Either way, you'll want to buy the HPOP for the late-99 (99.5 - 2003) since it will be an upgrade that drops right in to place, requires no other supporting mods, and will help your engine run a little stronger. What's your source, and the price you're looking at? We have several sponsors that could very likely do you a better deal. Not guaranteed, but it never hurts to shop around a little.
Welcome to FTE. As Brendan mentioned, are you sure you need a new HPOP? The reason for the difference is the early 99 trucks had a 15 deg HPOP and the later trucks had a 17 deg HPOP. You really want to go with a later version and get the upgraded 17 deg HPOP, regardless of which one you had earlier. Either one bolt right in, so you don't have to worry about that.
Next question is do you have, or plan on any mods like a chip, tuner, etc.? Sounds like now would be a great time to get an upgraded aftermarket HPOP, which happens to be less expensive than the factory one. Here's a link to the one I'm talking about. http://www.dieselsite.com/adrenaline/index.html
yea, hpop is leaking pretty good---i know the rebuild kit is cheaper but i have 265000 on the truck and since it will already be torn apart figured i would replace with new one--everything i have priced has been right at 1000 bucks. any ideas????
Go with this one:<br />

1/2 the price of the stocker!!! Problem is that you'll have to wait to get it for a couple weeks, but if you CAN wait... it'd be well worth it.
thanks for everyones input--i like the bigger HPOP idea--question is again at 260 thousand miles does it make since to go ahead and replace the HPOP since it is already tore down???not having dealt with to many diesels and not knowing the longevity of the pump????
Internal failure of the HPOP is not very common. I've got 283k on mine and it's still fine. Of course if you like the idea of a bigger pump, this would be a good excuse to order it. If money's a little tight right now, just change the o-rings and slap the old one back in.
