I'm not in NJ, PA, or DE. I'll probably end up at the same place my brother got his and it is very possible to fail there. My brother said that on the day he took his test there a good # of people failed. And I'm not doing any real long-haul OTR trucking. Just driving our triaxle around the state. I'm limited to intrastate (no i didn't spell interstate wrong) until I'm 21. I'll likely end up in our 87 Mack DM triaxle hauling material and moving machines on a tag trailer behind it as needed. Maybe run the tractor every once in a while. I'm planning on getting my combination vehicle (class A) license but I'll probably be in the straight truck most of the time. My father likes his Ch613 too much for me to start driving it daily.
Most of my work will likely not take me more than 1-3 towns away from our home base. I'll likely be doing a lot of topsoil hauling. Or if we get the head gasket done in time on our spare tractor and get another walking floor or ejector trailer I'll probably deliver biomass fuel to the greenhouse we sell to. It's all within 20 miles of home. I know that doesn't make it any safer really but at least I know the roads very well and know where the more dangerous spots are and can anticipate them.
good luck.
here in joisey, you can not get a CDL until 21.
Thanks, Tom. I'm surprised CT isn't as well but if I can drive all day instead of shoveling material out from under a conveyor belt while there's wood dust blowing on and around me and getting in my mouth/eyes/nose I will. Not that I can't be there shoveling. I've seen me do it. But if I can get a better job (and maybe a raise?) I will. Always looking for the ext step up. Can't climb to the top of the ladder without taking all the steps along the way and taking a step any time one is offered.
Howdy's from the heartland, all... surfing the 'net to find a replacement grille for my pickup. Bambi's mother decided she did'nt like the look of the one the factory put on it.
