Had an overhead console given to me for my '01 F250. The truck did not originally have one. If I get the correct wiring harness is it just a plug n play and everything will work? Or do I need other sensors and possibly reprogram the computer? Really only want the outside temp and compass to work, don't care for the mileage computer.
If the console you were given came out of an F250 before, you may be able to buy a wiring harness, but if your truck didn't have one, you may not be set up for all of the display features like miles to empty, etc. You could still get the compass to work but you would need a temp sensor and run wires up to the front in order to get that part hooked up - might be a lot of work. I bought the F150 retrofit that ol bird sells on ebay and it was a simple install..especially since the 2005 trucks didn't have the overhead console features, it is now built into where the mileage display is on the newer trucks and mine didn't come with that.
I know this is an old topic, but I have a 2005 F250 Super Duty that I just bought with extremely low mileage and i wanted to add an over-head console. Can you do this on an '05? Im just looking for the temp/direction version if I can retro this into place.

As said in the previous post go to ebay and punch in Olbird consoles and you will find what you are looking for. I bought one from him for my 03 superduty and love it. Mine only has the temp and compass but that is all I wanted...
I did look him up at FORD F-series Overhead console kits and Parts, but it only lists for 1998-2004, so I guess the more pointed question would be can you even do this in the 2005-2007 models. I havent been able to find any references being able to retro-fit an overhead console or even any sites that offer an overhead console for a 2005 for purchase.

Huh , I am not sure what the difference is between an 04 and 05. Maybe someone will chime in that knows the difference. I do know that the consoles he sells are just f150 consoles and he gives you the wiring info to make it work in you f250..
Honestly, Im not sure if there is a difference, but I did notice that '05s are not listed as being a a "fit" for what olbird had on his website, so Im not sure. Just based upon what I know and have seen, the shape is different, because a cousin of mine has one in his truck and I think I remember seeing a shelf on the back side of it instead of the sunglasses/garage door remote holder.
Do a search on here for it. You can use the search box at the top of the page or use the one on the Super Duty forum main page.
It has been done before and there are numerous threads on it. Here is a link to bpounds' gallery. Bill did his own retrofit on his '06 SD so it will work. You might also drop him a message if you've got any questions about it.
Well I got ol birds console in the mail yesterday with temp sensor and a wiring harness plug. No instructions or template to cut the headliner! Anyone know how to do it? He hasn't replied yet and I was hoping to install this weekend...
