I added a Bronco overhead console to my 93 EB several years ago which recently stopped working. The computer is fried, so I'll probably just swap in an explorer one and repin if necessary. Back in the day when I put it in, I was in a hurry and didn't do a great job on the wiring, which I'd like to fix while I have it down.
My question is: Would a 1993 EB have the connector off of the main harness for the overhead console harness to plug into, or did they only add that when the console became optional on the 1994 - 1996 Bronco EB? If the factory connector is there somewhere, I'll use it, otherwise I'll build a newer, neater one than I did last time.
My 1993 and earlier Ford EVTM does not show any wiring in place for an overhead console. It does for 1994 and newer Broncos. My guess is there is no factory wiring prior to 1994 model year.
Does anyone have a wiring diagram that shows the pinouts at computer module in the console? I'm talking about the plug directly on the module, not down the harness. Mine has been hacked up, all the wires are black, and I'm pretty sure I have a BRONCO computer, and an EXPLORER harness which is making it really difficult to get things sorted back out. I can power the thing up, but I'm not getting temps
I could have sworn I had something but I can't find the pictures. I swapped from an explorer overhead console, to a Bronco one. Then the Bronco computer wasn't working, so I swapped the explorer computer into the Bronco console.
Here is a picture that might help a tiny bit with the wiring that I made years ago, but it doesn't really say much....
If I find out more from my old pictures or something, I'll try and post it up. I remember specifically thinking it was dumb that the wires were all black so you couldn't really distinguish what is what.
Awesome, that should be everything I need. I'm working out of town for the week, i'll have to check the module when I get home to see if it indicates anywhere what direction the pins go 1-8 in. I've got power and ground figured out too, so that will probably tell me what orientation the pins go in.
One more question about the mounting bracket. How do you mount the bracket to the truck on pre 1994 trucks? I didn't use the bracket the 1st time, I just mounted the console to the headliner, which was a PITA and never looked quite right. When I pulled the console down, it left a perfect imprint on the headliner to follow, so I cut out the opening in the headliner the way the 94+ trucks with the OC have. It looks like the metal roof directly above the overhead console **might** be double wall metal where I could use a couple of short, self-tap screws to secure the bracket to the ceiling, but it's hard to tell. The roof on the outside of the truck is completely smooth except back by the topper. Behind the OC on the inside, the ceiling has a roughly 6" wide "strip" that appears to be about 1/2" lower than the rest. I've never seen a picture of how the bracket mounts to the trucks originally equipped with the OC.
I think the pre 94 trucks have the same cab as the 94-96 trucks but I could be wrong.
I found this picture online because I don't think I have a picture of when my headliner was off. Maybe it can help slightly to compare if the top of yours looks the same to this one.
