Another update - haven't really done much to the truck, need to get the engine built first. Got the block done though, it cleaned up @ .030. Parts are rolling in, hopefully I can have it built, or at least begin building, on May long. Gonna have to clean up my other set of heads, one of the ones off the engine is bad. It's fixable, but not worth it. After all, it is a stock head. Gonna run with the other set of stockers, and save up for some aluminums eventually. Found the carb I want - needs a rebuild, but that's no biggie.
Wound up springing for the Hedman headers designed for the swap.
Still not sure what I'm going to do for a rad, have heard that 5.0 Exploder rads will work. Drizzt, any advice?
It's been a while since I've said anything about my project. I'll let the pics talk for me.
That's a stock 302 I'm using for the time being, for a couple different reasons. One, my engine isn't built yet, and two, if something goes wrong and I smoke the engine, I'd rather it be a miled out stocker than my 331.
That's what will be goin in the truck this winter. It will be a 331 stroker. Right now however, its an empty block, save for the old crank. No pistons or anything in it.
The heads. 2.02/1.60 valves.
The Mickey Thompson valve covers I bought, but not sure if I'll use them. If they can clean up nicer I will. But if this is as good as they get I think they'll look a bit "junky" sitting on top of those heads. (Suggestions to get them better are incredibly welcome)
Ride height with everything installed. The front end will come down a short n' curly once the truck moves, due to the I beam suspension not being settled from being lifted off the ground.
Looking good and your making some good progress Trevor.
This weekend a friend called me to let me know that he`s selling his Ranger project. It`s an 87 Super cab that he was dropping a 302 in and now his son has no time to help finish so they`re selling. It comes with lots of parts including new re pop doors, rust free doors/fenders and a later Ranger step side box though no engine.
It`s tempting as my 90 needs some rust repairs but I`m not sure I want to go to a full blown resto on mine.
Smokin` deal if I was onto redoing my 90. That`s probably a little more than the 2 new two re pop doors and included is that step side box he bought from SGI for $700 plus a Super Cab parts truck........
True enough but then again you don`t find a step step short box very often. Cool that it`s fiberglass which means no rust unlike my regular box.........
I`m tempted to see what he wants for those new re pop doors, bet they`re worth abit of coin.
