Motorcraft battery manufacturer

I did a search of the forums, but didn't find anything. Sorry if this has been asked before.

I was curious if anyone knows who makes the batteries for Motorcraft? I know each auto maker has their own "labeled" batteries (ie Motorcraft, AC Delco, Chrysler, etc.). Just curious, as I'm still on my original battery from 2002 and would like to know who makes them. Awesome battery, IMO.

Motorcraft batteries are made by Johnson Controls.

The four largest domestic battery manufacturers are Johnson Controls (Interstate, Motorcraft, Energizer, older Diehards), Delco (Sears, newer Diehards), GNB (Champion) and Exide (NAPA).

Mine is still on the original battery too.

Edit: Looks like you got your info from the same place I did. Great minds think alike

Thanks for the replies. Makes sense that both Motorcraft & Interstate are made by the same company, as they seem to last the longest in my applications. I have 2 Interstate marine batteries in my boat and they're going on season #4 without a problem. As mentioned above, my Expedition is still going strong on its original battery from 2002.

Thanks again for the replies!

Does Motorcraft have a certain spec that Johnson has to meet or are the Motorcraft & Interstate's basically the same unit with a different label? We carry Interstate's at work, but if (and when) my original battery goes, I'm seriously considering putting another Motorcraft in. This thing has been awesome!

Good question. When I researched the part used in my truck through Motorcraft and then one of the site sponsors, I came up a BXT65-750 as the heavy duty battery for it. It is listed as a 100 month battery by Motorcraft for $104.06.

Silver State Ford Parts Genuine Ford Truck Parts Lincoln Mercury Parts OEM Ford Parts and Accessories

When looking for the same thing though Interstate , they come up with a MTP-65-Mega-Tron Plus - 85 Months - 850 CCA for $125.95.

The Motorcraft battery has 100 CCA less but is rated for 15 more months of life. In my book, the Motorcraft is the better value.

I agree the MC is definitely a better value. Thanks for sharing your research findings.

Yes, Ford sets standards and specs on every vendor they use. They might have 6 more lead plates in the motorcraft batteries then the Interstates.

Thats some of the reason the Ford/Motorcrafts parts run a little higher in price.

Also another big battery player is East Penn Deka they manufacture allot of Batteries for different companies too.

Napa, Caterpillar, Some Ford, etc

In some instances, I'm willing to pay the little extra to ensure I'm getting a quality product and/or part. A battery is an area I will not cut corners with. I'm definitely going to go with the MC!
