Question The New Gray CPS

I just got back form the dealer . I purchased a diesel maint coupon book when I bought the truck. It covers oil change/filter, rotate tires and grease etc, and a car wash coupon. It had 12 coupons in it and now I am down to 1 left. So I will have to be starting myself to do it soon. Anyway, I never got my recall CPS changed because of what I was reading on here about the problems. So today, I asked the dealer to just give it to me so the recall can be closed and i'll stop getting the notice from for that it was not completed yet. My next question is this..The CPS I have in now is the black on and it was put in at 100k. I now have 144k on it with no problems. I also have a spare black and now also have the spare gray one I got today. Do you guys think I should use the gray one as a last resort type cps or when I need to change it put the grey one in over the black spare that I have. In other words which do you prefer the black or the new grey? One more question, when I start doing my own oil changes would you go to synth or stick with normal oil that I have been using. I dont want any leaks from switching and also how long can I go between changes and is it worth the price difference in the long run... Thanks Jeff

Stick with the black & keep the gray as your "last ditch" effort.

No... send the black one to me and I'll send you another gray one so your gray one doesn't get lonely

on the oil switch, its personal prefference, you won't develope leaks by switching to syn. do you ever experience hard cold starts, if so switching to syn. will greatly help out. its not as cold in Texas as N.Y. so I run Delo year round.

and i'd keep the grey for a spare as stated above.

Jeff I just switched over to Syn after close to 130 something K. I have had no problems with leaks. The truck sounds quieter and definatly starts up smoother in the cold weather. IIRC it was only $20 more to go the syn route. Well worth it in my opinion.

I agree, keep the black one in and toss the new spare in the glove box. I just got another letter yesterday, maybe they will put the cps in my hand too....

Nothing noticeable on some trucks, a noticeable miss or rough idle on other trucks. A couple of codes that show up on a cylinder contribution test. Of course the gray one is the only one available from Ford and International now, so you're kind of stuck with it if you need one.

on the question of black vs. gray CPSs'... does anyone know where we could get a black cps? does any of our sponsors have a back stock of them, or are we stuck with the gray ones this late in the game?

Ebay only seems to have gray ones now. i haven't been watching all that closely at ebay for those items, but i guess i will now.

thanks
