I got my reacall notice a few days ago. My question is this, My truck is running perfect now. I had the cps changed out about 1.5 yrs ago when it was hickuping a lot. It was at 98k. (125k now)I would think I have a newer one in there. It is a black one with gold bracket. Also I am afraid if they change it out they may try to reflash it and fry my D-P tuner. So I want to take a poll to see what is the most favorable track to take. thanks Jeff
Nope, you have the old style. The new ones are gray. I can understand your concern regarding your tuner. If you don't want them to work on it you could always buy a gray and change it yourself. The grays aren't very expensive. I've seen them online for as low as 15 bucks. Takes ten minutes to swap out.
I have been reading that there are problems with the new grey one also. Mostly giving a #8 injector error. I do have a spare black one I keep with me in the tool box for a backup. I can't see bringing it in to the stealer and having them screw it up on me. And now with the reports of the recall CPS being a problem I am more hesitant than ever.
Exactly why I haven't changed mine. I have a black in there that has been running great and I have another new black, a blue and two grays for spares. Also have a black that was cutting in and out that I would put in if I was going to take it to Ford.
One thing I always thought of this, is why take it in if you have already fixed the issue? I even asked one of the guys I work with why take it in? 20 bucks, 10 minutes, and the knowledge that nothing else was messed with.
You should have the old one. I had mine changed April of 07 and I had an old one. I would get it replaced asap. They won't reflash you PCM. They have no reason to. I wrote on my work order not to reflash just in case they did. That way I could TRY to get the money for a reburn back from them if they did.
If the truck is running right and you have a spare why mess with it? I still haven't seen a letter but I won't have mine changed out. My truck is running fine and I have 2 spares behind the back seat. I'm keeping what I have.
My .02, Joe
Has anybody tried to just take them an old one and exchanging it for a new one? My service guy did just that. Who wouldn't want to write it up and not even have to actually change it? It's worth a shot.
