Question Black CPS Talk!!!

Okay, there has been plenty of discussions about the recall. But what I want to know is can we still get the black CPS versus the Gray? Now,I have a gray one as my spare in the glove box. But I keep hearing the gray ones are the ones that Ford is replacing the black ones with and they are crapping out!

This is this part # 1825899C93 for a black CPS which I got from International. Is this going to work on any 7.3 regardless of year?

I'm just trying to figure this out and I want to have a black CPS for a spare as well.

Any thoughts?

Some owners are reporting issues with the new gray CPS offered under the recall. The black ones are getting harder to find. Ebay may be a source.

That looks like the right one from IH. Did you just get this, or is this something you've had for a while? If your International dealer still has some of those, you might pick up an extra spare black one, then share the dealer name here since several folks would like to get their hands on one of those.

Good point Chris. My local IH dealer doesn't have them anymore.

I just wanted to make sure that was the right part# before I picked one up. So that looks like the right one? I will let you all know how many I can find and send the info your way.

I think the ones I got from Jody at DP Tuners ended with 99 instead of 93. Gimme a few minutes to check it out...

EDIT: Its close, but not the same. Here's what I have 1821720C99. My dad just put one of these in his 97 and swears it runs better and got a little better mileage (not saying its gonna do the same for our trucks or others).

IH does not have the black or blue CPS any more..they have gone gray also..but there a newer gray CPS..supposed to be better then what ford has...ford has fixed there problem with the gray CPS..the problem is there just filling them in as needed so getting a bad gray CPS from Ford is still good..

As Ron pointed out, unless your local IH dealer still has a stock of the old ones, they are carrying the new gray model now. When you pick one up, they may just cross reference it to the new number.

The C99 Jody sold was actually for the OBS powerstrokes, but they work fine on our trucks. International C93 is the correct part number for our trucks. I spoke with Jody about this when I noticed he sent me an OBS CPS. It works flawlessly, so I'm not complaining.

Make sure you keep a spare handy. The ones from the parts stores have been known to be even less reliable than the Ford ones.

If you're talking about the 94-96 CPS Ray, I don't really know. You might ask down in the OBS section. It seems like I've read it would work, but it's recommended to use the right one. The guys down there would have a better idea of any differences.

The 94-96 CPS is still black, but nobody seems to know if it will work in a newer OBS or SD. There is a guy on Ebay selling them, and Ed (FTE parts guy) can also get them at a good price.

i was fallowing a thread about this and the answer hasnt really came out..from what i hear..the c99 is just better cps then the c93..hear are a couple post about it..
this is quote by Diane at DP tuner.
Re: Does the black cps sensor really help anything

My supplier asked the tech he found them from to look up the part number for the 1999 and up before we ordered the ones we have now and what we have sold before. IH1821720C99 is what the computer data gave him for 1999 and up.

We asked what the actual differences between the C93 & C99 were and they said it was that one had gold on the contacts and the other had silver. They had no other reasons. I have asked my supplier to look into this for me further so I can give ya'll an answer.

Theres' not many left of the C99's in the country and we were told Zero on the C93's.

I'll keep you updated on what I find on the C99.

Re: Does the black cps sensor really help anything

I went and had a nice long talk with my IH buddy about this. Had some time to kill...and drooled over the new Lone Star diecast truck...but I digress...

The base number represents the part...in this case 1821720. Any parts that begin with this number are completely interchangable.

The Cxx represents the iteration of the part. In this case...the C93 was the first iteration of the part. The last iteration was C99. C99 is the latest and greatest iteration of this part.

He looked up 1821720C99 for me...and it rolls over now to a completely different part number. He went and got it for me...and its the grey cps.

So...any 1821720Cxx sensors out there are wholly compatible with the 7.3L motor...OBS or Superduty...and they are the black cps.

He has a call placed into IH to find out exactly what was different in the "iterations" for me. It got him to thinking as well.

Anyway...the cps you got from Jody is just fine for your truck. No worries...

i also know swamps was asking for good black CPS's to test and see if they can find the weak spot in these things to..

Well I found another Black CPS part # 1825899C93 on e-bay. Man you can find most anything on there. It's brand new still in the original IH box. Scored it for $20.

I'm still looking for more. I know Riff is selling a bunch on here, but those are going to go fast. Anyway keep checking e-bay guys they seem to turn up every so often.
