steering stabilizer

How do I test the steering stabilizer, on my 2003 diesel.
I am still trying to tweak the steering. It still a little bit of a wanderer.

Thanks again foe all your replies. Jim

maybe i will stand corrected, but the steering stabilizers sole purpose is to take the bumpiness out of the front end. though it may help some in the wondering, but i woudl start by checking tire pressure, and then checking the alignment. The only reason i say this is because i am going through the same thing.

For about 35 bucks, you could just replace it.

Thanks Shawn: Fresh alignment, Ball joints checked, Tire pressure at 60 psi. Good tires.
I just want to check everything, before trying adjustable Ball joints and tinkering with the caster/camber settings. Thanks Jim

The steering stablizer isn't causing your wandering problem. I just went through this myself. I would look at the ball joints first. Then check the tie rod ends. Is the truck lifted? Check the pitman arm to steering box connection. Another thing to check, and this is what caused my problem, is make sure that the rear end is aligned square to the frame. Mine was out and the truck was scary to drive. Had it aligned two weeks ago and she drives straight now.

Funny you mentioned that Scott, I followed a Superduty home from work yesterday and it was crab-walking down the highway. I couldn't tell if the front end was whacked or the rear was out of alignment. It was apparent from driving behind though.

What would cause the rear end to be misalined?

After reading your post about that a week or two ago, I had mine checked and it came back ok. I think my issue is more of a loose steering gear though.
