1978/79 F100/150 rear axles: Ford 9" or Dana 44.

Someone will prolly chime in and say they've never seen a Dana 44 rear axle in a 1978/79, but...

Ford did offer it.

All 1959/67 F100's when Limited Slip was ordered, used Dana 44's.

The Dana 60 was also available (as an option) on 1961/66 F100's with or without Limited Slip.

This 60 uses the same wheels all the other F100's used: 5 lug, 5.50" bolt circle.

I've never seen the Dana 44, I looked for one for a Jeep project but never found one in three different Ford Truck specialist wrecking yards

my 2wd 69 F100 came with the 5 bolt Dana 60-2

and my 69 F100 4x4 has the 9"

You may never have seen a Dana 44 rear axle, but Ford used them on 1952/56 F100's. 1949/56 passenger cars; F100's with LS from 1959 thru 1967, and F100/150's in 1978/79.

My '65 F100 has a Dana 44 with Limited Slip, and it's been in there since the truck was new.

The 2004/2009 Nissan Titans also use Dana 44's...front & rear.

I certainly don't deny they exist, they're pretty rare around here though.

I used an Isuzu Rodeo rear 44 instead

Ford never installed an 8.5 rear end in anything, because there isn't any such thing.

From 1969 thru 1979 some LTD's and Granada/Monarchs came with the WER 8.7 rear end, but no Ranchero's ever used it.

Ranchero's used 7 1/4, 8 and 9 inch rear ends.

The 7 1/4 inch rear ends were used in 1960/66 I-6 Ranchero's, when it was a Falcon.

The 8.8 rear end was introduced in 1983, the last Ranchero was produced in 1979.
