the passenger side front framrail is bent. not real bad but it causes my bumper to sit crooked. i was thinking of wrapping a chain around the frame rail and the other end to a tree to try and straighten it. i am worried of causing more damage than i have. any ideas? it is a 79 250 4x4
Don't try this at home (and that's no cliche'). You could end up getting injured, or you could throw the front end geometry way out of wack, causing steering and driveability problems, possibly causing an accident.
Take it to a reputable frame shop. They have the tools and expertise to fix it right. It would be money well spent.
From having worked at a body shop i can tell you the biggest problem is pulling it at exactly the right angle with exactly the right amount of pressure so it pulls out correctly along with all the attached (riveted) cross members. I have even "repositioned" a toasted bumper by driving/pushing it back into position against a one ton cement block. But, a frame is a whole other animal and not worth further damaging.
BADCAR HI I Suggest--YOU Remove the Front BUMPER & ALL the Hardware-- [Clean FRAME] I Beleive the 79 Frane Ends--Are Rounded a BIT Place a Jack in the Oppposite Connor-& Place a BOLT- in the Frame Brace HOLE--Nice &TIGHT!-& JACK theBEND OUT-SLOWLEY & GO just a Littel BEYOND--Being STREIGHT! & USE HEAT Or-HAMMER--Where the KINCK was!--& It Should Turn OUT Pretty GOOD!
