I just recenly bought a 2004 ranger fx4 level 2 from a local dealer. i ran carfax on this and i also checked out oasis because my dad works for a dealer. now that i have had the truck for a few weeks i am beginning to notice that the truck seems to sit lower on the passenger side when looking at it from both the front and the rear.
could the frame be bent causing this or maybe worn suspension parts? carfax came back clean but we all know how reliable that can be. the truck drives straight and the tired seem to be in good shape but it just bugs the hell out of me when i walk up behind my truck and it seems to be slanting to the passenger side a few inches no matter where its parked.
any suggestions or people that have had this same problem?
so is there anyway to get it checked out? will a simple alignment tell if it is suspension related or frame related or do i need to bring it to a body shop and have them put it on a frame machine?
Of course there is. You put it on your level garage floor, measure down dead vertical (plumb) from a few points on the frame that are symmetric about the CL (such as some mounting point), then measure diagonally between those points. I have no idea what the tolerance is, but I wouldn't expect it to be off by more than 1/4". Do not measure from suspension components as if you do you will be adding to tolerance accumulation and your result will become "meaningless" or will be in doubt. Said another way, you want to check the frame and not suspension components.
If you have torsion bars, you may be able to adjust one side or the other to even it out... make sure you roll the truck back and forth about 10 feet to allow the suspension to settle between each measurement.
Also a good idea to get the alignment done after you finish your adjustment.
I have an 03 Level II. It was a few inches low in front when i bought it used. The Torsion bar adjusters were backed out to lower the front for a short person?? I had my friend in the alignment rack at the dealership i worked at raise it to level and reset the alignment. The only bad part is (i raised the back by stripping off the hitch and spare tire) the ride is brutal stiff in front. Don't waste any time or money until you carefully measure the gap between the control arms(and frame ) and adjust the bars to level. pump the front bumper down after adjusting to settle, drive to alignment shop or have done by pro. This is common on new trucks and may not be a big deal.
