Not a great picture but I guess this aftermarket unit in my "77 was not dealer installed?
The controls are under the dash and the vents are in the factory locations. No idea who made it though.
Frank
Don't know if you ever got your answer, or care to, but those controls and vents match the Nostalgic A/C kit that was in my truck.
For anyone wondering, the Nostalgic kit fits beautifully. Slips up between the heater box and the dash itself, retains the glove box, and nothing sticks out the bottom. While I didn't buy it myself, I would say it's definitely worth the investment if you're doing a nice restoration and want A/C.
That illustration to the right is of the Hang On glovebox used with Deluxe dealer installed A/C.
There is no dealer Hang-On A/C used on any 1973/79 F100/350.
Look thru the illustrations in the catalog, see if you can find a pic of one. Good luck, cuz there isn't any.
Why did you bother posting that pic? Is it because I said there was no Hang On A/C used in these trucks from Ford, and the caption says Hang-On A/C?
Trying to prove me wrong, huh. Well...sorry to burst your bubble kiddo, that pic is captioned wrong for a truck...you wanna know why?
It was taken from the '73/79 CAR parts catalog (ILLUSTRATION SECTION 195 / PAGE 11), and in that catalog is says 1973/78 LTD use with Hang On A/C.
Ford just used the same pic in the truck catalog, removed the LTD reference, than added the F100/350 ref.
You need to calm the f$%^ down dude. You take everything as a personal affront to you. Sorry to burst your bubble old F&^* but you're not that important. Get over yourself.

Why dig up an old thread just to bash someone?
Sure ND can sometimes come across as rude (no offense to you ND), but he is an invaluable resource. Many a time he's answered questions that nobody else was able to answer.

A newbie with an attitude! You should "get over yourself" too.
Maybe you would feel more at home at the Pirate 4X4 forum.
Can anyone tell me what all parts are needed for the economy a/c system? i have a 77 f250 4x4 that doesnt have a/c and would like to put a system in, a buddy of mine got a parts pickup that has the a/c system in the dash but it doesnt appear that it ever had hoses going through the firewall and it doesnt have the motor in it so there is no a/c compressor or evaporator on the radiator support. Just wanted to see if its even possible to get the system working again if i put it in my pickup
I know this is an old thread. I just picked up a 78 parts truck and it has the dealer installed ac. I don't know if it works but I have parts if anyone needs them.
The Deluxe unit is ugly, IMO. No offense to anyone who owns one, I just did not think they were very pleasant looking. The economy unit was less intrusive and looked more like the factory a/c.
I don't think any of the pics show the actual Ford Economy units, they all look aftermarket to me. The Ford Economy unit had 2 round ***** that were underneath the center registers and a Ford oval logo.
NumberDummy, what exactly did the Deluxe a/c do that the Economy unit did not?
My very first pick-up was a '73 F-100 Ranger with the Deluxe dealer installed a/c. That thing would nearly freeze you out even on a hot summer day here in Texas. It cooled better than any factory installed a/c I've ever seen in a dentside. Yes, you lost a glove box, but you sure never sweated.

My dad had a '73 Ranger XLT with factory air - that thing never cooled very well, either, even tho I tried several "common sense" things to improve it's performance. That's my only experience, although that gave me the impression that you had as well. My '74 doesn't have a/c so I don't have to worry about that now.

That's good to know, trying to get mine going again.
I know the A/C in my '65 Mustang would freeze your boys off!!
Apparently I have the Dealer installed Economy AC. The fan works and the compressor spins but it won't hold a charge at all. It's seems like if it were just leaks it would slowly loose the charge but this is immediate. Any ideas

Maybe it's a large leak? Or many small ones if the system hasn't been usable for years. You've got your heat-exchange cores, the condensor and eveporator, which are probably OK, but then you've got the hoses which can leak, and the compressor, which can leak as well. Hoses can be replaced and the compressor can be replaced or rebuilt. Only other potential leak I can think of would be where the pressure switch threads in.
.......if you put Freon in, it has to be going somewhere. If you can't find a BIG leak, how are you determining it's losing the charge? If it's low gauge pressure, a stuck-open expansion valve or dislodged orifice tube can give you basically no high-side pressure, since there's no restriction to build pressure against.
Back from the dead but will this Cougar part fit as a register for the dealer installed AC in the first diagram or is there a replacement made for the passenger side register and the dealer economy AC as in the first picture of the #7 post? I need the parts that goes from underneath from the box into to register.
