Switched power source

Looking for a switched power source to supply minimal 12V to close a relay in the area of the steering column on a 2009. Installing a auxillary fuse panel feed from battery for additional loads such as small inverter 12V outlets and CB radio do not want to use up the Upfitter feeds as already need 3 of them for other feeds that need switches. Any ideas?

The radio circuit is usually pretty good for switched power, then you have a couple choices under the column.

I don't see 2009 info on my first look, but here's a 2008 tech sheet.

12 VOLTS Blue/red Ignition switch harness +
IGNITION White/orange Ignition switch harness +
ACCESSORY Violet/Green Ignition switch harness +
ACCESSORY 2 Brown/yellow Ignition switch harness +
STARTER Blue/white Ignition switch harness +
KEY SENSE Blue/gray Ignition switch harness +
TACH SIGNAL Blue In driver's kickpanel (loose wire) AC
May also be found in harness left of steering column.
LOCK Blue/green In driver's kickpanel -
UNLOCK Yellow/purple In driver's kickpanel -
DOORPIN Blue In harness from under driver seat +
BRAKESWITCH Violet/white At brake switch +
May also be Yellow/green in driver's kickpanel.
PARKLIGHTS Violet/white In driver's kickpanel +
HAND BRAKE White/violet In driver's kickpanel -
HORN Yellow/red Steering column -
CLUTCH SWITCH Blue/orange In driver's kickpanel

As long as your using a Bosch style relay, you only need 12v and 200mA to trip the coil. You need less voltage at higher amperage and vice versa. I've tripped relays with a 9v battery before, just about an switched source should work for you.

I don't know what size inverter or CB your running, but you might be getting close onthe relays' capacity. You can use the one to trip another if you find you need more amperage, so your only pulling the original 200mA and not 400mA off the stock wiring.

Will be using a 40 amp relay fed from a fused feed off the battery to supply the 6 - fuse panel so not much load to power the coil the panel is going to feed the CB and 1 or 2 12V power outlets, hate the cords dangling down from the dash. The second fuse panel will supply power to the 200 watt inverter it will be live all the time but has its own switch built in that way if the truck is turned off I don't have to restart the computer Intalled both panels on a bracket I made between the brake pedal mount and the park brake bracket the outlets are going under the cup holder at the center of the dash CB is in the King Ranch overhead consul with wires fished through the headliner. Just checked the laptop it draws max of 62 watts while on working and charging.
