I'm trying to figure out the wiring on my truck and I'm at wits end, I fixed the fuse box so it gets power like it should but I for the life of me can't find a switched 12v power source that doesn't lose power while cranking.
I'm trying to get the power for the coil ran so it works off the key and I am having no luck been checking everything I can think of with a test light and the only switched power wires from the ignition switch lose power while cranking.
I had a wire back feeding the ignition, got the problem solved and it fires right up and shuts off no problem now. Funny how walking away can solve problems so many times!
The relay might be labeled "I" for ignition. It supplies power directly to the coil bypassing the resistor wire helping start the engine especially if it's cold out. The resistor wire is located about 6" to 12" from the fuse panel in the main bundle and ends around the middle of the dash.
Check the schematics for more detail (I don't know where they are located but an image search for schematic should turn up something).
