Update,
Pulled both heads, cylinder with bent pushrod also had bent valve. all cylinders had coolant in them, luckily the rings were still good and no coolant in the oil. a handfull of the valve were a light sand yellow color. we took the heads to a local Ford motor guy(49 years of fords) Garrett Machine if anybody cares. said he is going to replace all the exhaust valves and regrind the intake valves. He said to definatly pull all th emission stuff, i am gonna guess by the posts that its a matter of preference and he said to put on a bigger carb or rejet the one on it. will post more later. thank you for the help again
Make sure he magnafluxes the heads before bothering to work on them.
When I pulled my engine last spring I sent the heads to the machine shop (just for fun)and found hairline cracks on almost every cylinder.
If you're going to dispense with the emissions why not grind the thermactor humps out of the exhaust ports while you have the chance?
I think you'll see a bigger gain there than by removing the emissions stuff.
Edit: OF COURSE, replace the timing chain with a non-retarded one. Maybe even the cam etc.. given that you (he) bent a valve and pushrod and aren't concerned with emissions.
Did your motor man (who doesn't understand emission controls,) determine the cause of the bent valve?
While it's apart, check the timing chain
He understands emissions, but doesnt care for them, hes a racer. Again this isnt my engine or my $$$$ so i cant say what exactly is going to be done, I do know Garretts rep, and he will only do it the right way, no half way stuff.
