Bum Warmer

I've read most of the posts on this. It appears my element is burned out. I contacted local Ford dealer, and was told they only sell an new element that includes the whole foam seat, at over $270! I can't do that. Is there anyone that can direct me to a source for the element, or a replacement for a reasonable price?
Thanks,
Helopilot

Are you sure the wire isnt melted and shorted out? That was the problem with mine. I took the seat out of the truck and took it in the house and pulled the leather back......sure enough....and nice burnt spot. I took and striped the wires back a little bit more, and soldered them back together and wrapped it with electrical tape. Put the seat back in and works great!! Took a total time of maybe 40 minutes at most with taking the seat out.
Good luck and keep us posted!

Not yet. I decided that the seat cushion, and the leather over it, could use a new panel, so I took my truck to a local upholstery shop to get both things done ( seat warmer and new leather seat with new bolsters, etc). The guy said he was good at soldering, and would do the repairs if that was the problem. I ordered the leather and it should be in first of the week, at which time I will find out if there is any sign of burning in the foam or around it. The other seats are fine, but with 148K on her, she needs a new driver's seat I guess. Your help, and your follow-up are gratefully accepted. I now hope for the best.

If you dont mind me asking, what is the leather running you?? My passanger seat has a tear where the stiching that says "limited". I though about taking it to see what it would cost if it could be repaired or if i have to get the new leather

I was quoted $275 just for the seat bottom. That includes new foam, etc, leather to match. Seems high to me, but I couldn't do it myself, and I am upgrading overall where it needs refurbishing. The real deal that I wanted to do is Katskins, and the entire interior can be done really top of the line, 2-tone leather better than original, for about $1600. I don't need that yet, but when I do, that's the way I will go.

Just a FYI. I just finished the leather seat repair, and with it, did the heater fix. Thanks to all of you who contributed suggestions, THE FIX WORKED! Simple solder job just like you all said, and bingo, heated seats again. The down side is that it's now close to spring and I won't be needing them until next winter. But oh well, they work now! My thanks to you all.

rb8484, I note that you obviously do lots of towing. I know this is a different subject (thread?) I am learning how to use this site, anyway, have you done other mods on your X, such as springs, shocks, RAS, etc? If so, could you give me a quick heads-up on what your experience has been with these if you've don any of them.
Thanks,
Jim

Jim, I have not done any upgrades on my suspension. I have no problem with towing. I even have a 850lb plow on the front and didnt upgrade anything on the front. I have never had any problems what so ever.

Rob,
Thanks for that. I suspect that many times, we (at least I) think we need to do something about something when there really is nothing that needs done.
