Soething i have found to be a constant, look at where the cables attach to the cable clamps. If they don't use either a crimp eye or direct clamping, pass on them. The ones that are cheap tend to be folded back over the insulation such that when the cables get hot from use, the insulation melts, letting the copper wire sink inside the insulation, and therefore losing connection. They just fold the wire back and crimp it into the clamp with the insulation holding the pressure. Junk.

I have a nice heavy set of cables that have lasted me for years, but the clamps are getting beat up. Been run over (don't ask) and had things dropped on them. Any good sources for replacement clamps?

AWDirect and other professional suppliers have a good variety to choose from, but I just use welding cable. The other nice thing about jumper cables made from welding cable is that you can use them to extend your stick welder.
