I am looking for a good monthly car magazine to subscribe to, but I do not know which one to get. I would prefer a ford related or truck related magazine, but I picked up a copy of Diesel World yesterday and it was pretty good. Anyone subscribe to a good ford and or truck magazine? If the magazine is more about general mechanics, that will be good also. I am 17 and am looking to learn, and diesel world had a few good run through guides on part installations.
Motor Trend has a publication called "Truck Trend" magazine. I dont subscribe, but have read it from time to time and its a good refrence. Most of the mags i subscribe to are about antique cars and trucks but truck trend would be a good one. If you go to pep boys or somewhere similar, they always have lots of car/truck mags for sale.
I go with Truckin'. They own a lot of the different other magazines under a parent company. They have a lot of stuff in there. I don't subscribe, because I get it at the grocery. But anyways, they do offer a lot in there, but it is mostly gas trucks and some diesels, and personally, I think they lean a little too far over to Chevy/GMC and suck the b***s of any foreign truck and the current Dodge. Sorry there. But like the guy said above me. That is also good, or 8 Lug is awesome.
Or just Ford in general, 5.0 is a good Mustang magazine and MM&FF is great too. Probably my favorite Ford magazine.
But this is coming from someone who reads "sheep!," "The Shepherd," and "The Goat Rancher."
Borrow them from the library, or buy boxes of back issues at a car parts swap meet. Most magazines are no better than the shows on TV that just show guys bolting on shiny stuff that their sponsors sell. Hunt down old copies of Tex Smith's Hot Rod Mechanix or 4x4 Mechanix magazines if you want to read something cool.
There's probably a trade magazine for mechanics and shops that'll have good stuff in it that you'll actually learn from. Otherwise, books, and getting your fingers dirty with people that know more about wrenching is a good way to learn.
