Bad ground? Dead switch? Help!
Sunday when leaving the drag strip, (I'm the announcer at the new Fontana, Auto Club Dragway,) my 1988 F350 went "click!" A pal jumped me with his diesel, nothing, another guy hooked up his mobile jumper and along with the diesel my engine turned over super slow. Finally a few guys came over and pushed me across the parking lot and I dumped the clutch, drove home.
My truck eats starters every two years like clockwork, but this high dollar starter was only a year old. When I got home I hoped it had charged enough, if that was the problem, but it wasn't turned it off, and it was dead dead.
Long story short-er...New starter, perfect big battery, new solenoid, no change. Nothing. No clicks even. My battery ground wire connection looks crappy, so I ran a jumper cable to the starter housing, one click, then nothing.
Ran the jumper to the plus pole on the starter, spins over but won't start even with the key in the on position and the clutch pedal depressed while the cable was connected.
So to recap - I have a new tested starter, new solenoid that clicks when jumped across, battery at 13.8 volts.
Also noticed ~ wipers don't work ~ head lights don't work.
Seems like a ground problem but I'm grasping at straws now. It's my daily driver and I need to get 'er going.
Anyone ever have this problem?
Thanks
