Hey guys i have a 97 f350 with a 7.3 and i replaced all the brakes except the proprtioning valve and the master cylinder. My brakes still dont work, its just a really hard pedal with no brakes. Anyone know what the problem may be?

Do your heater vents work properly? The reason I ask is because they run off the vacuum pump, which also powers the brake booster. If the vacuum pump isn't working, or a line dry rotted, the brake booster wont work.

I agree with twags6, you have a vacuum leak or the vacuum pump is shot.

If your heater is stuck on defrost there is no vacuum.
The pump is belt driven, on the driver side of the engine. Follow the line coming off the rear up to the distribution block. There should be a capped off port that you can hook a vacuum gauge onto for testing.

Here's a link to an online Factory Repair Manual:

Yep check for vacuum supply. You brake light should be on if you have low vacuum and the warning system is working right. The vacuum pump is the pulley between the A/C compressor and the power steering pump. If there is oil coming out of it or the pulley looks crooked its junk. It has a rubber hose coming off it and goes to a manifold just under the master cylinder where is distributes to the rest of the truck. The mini um spec is 18 in. HG.
