I recently picked up an 89 bronco ii and I am having a problem with the brakes. When i step on the brakes the pedal is solid and has almost no brakes. not sure what to do. any help would be great. Thanks Todd
Hey, I was hoping somebody with more experience might come forward to help you out but there's not a lot of action in the B2 forum unfortunately. I'm more of your typical do-it-yourselfer but will give it my best.
Could you clarify what you mean by the pedal is hard? They do stop a little harder than most vehicles (single cylinder brake calipers rather than the twin cylinder standard nowdays) and that did take some getting used to for me. But if you're saying there's basically no brakes then that's definately not normal.
You've done the initial things like checking the fluid and looking at the pads/rotors & shoes/drums?
Your brake booster may be bad, unplug the vacum hose and plug it, then start the engine and see if the feeling on the petal changes. If not, first make sure you are getting vac at the valve going into the booster. If you do, then most likely the booster is shot. Or you could also have a line pinched going from the master cyl to the centering valve on the frame.A way to check that is, open one of the wheel cyl bleeder valves, and have somebody push the brake petal down an see if fluid comes out.
