Could be several things, but it sounds like an EGR cooler. To verify, jack up the back end and pull the EGR valve. If it is wet with coolant, it is the EGR cooler. If the EGR cooler is bad, then the oil cooler should really be replaced as well. What does the smoke smell like?
Are these dealer only parts? Where is the egr cooler and the oil cooler. Is this something i can handle at home. As far as smell there really isnt any.
If you just bought it I'd take it back to where you got it and have them fix it. Are you under 100k? If so it will still be under warranty and only cost you the $100 deductible.
Ya its just over the limit So this will be on my dime. Do ihave to replace the cooler and the valve, or does the valve get stuck and let coolant in.After the truck warms up the steamer stops steaming.
If it is the cooler now would be a good time to delete it. It is a problem with the 6.0's and you're better off without it. I am planning on deleting mine when I get some time and money.
Whats the fastest way to get back on the road. does the cooler break or get cloged. just curious what causes the cooler to fail an dwhat happens to it when it does fail.
Not sure what a new EGR cooler costs but here's a link that might help you and at the end of the 2nd page there's a link to some EGR delete kits. I guess as far as getting it back on the road fast that would depend on your abilities, and possibly which route you go, as far as parts availibility and shipping. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...gr-delete.html Also like Bismic said it would be a good time to replace the oil cooler so you're not tearing it apart again in the possibly near future.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/8...-problems.html Post #4 explains how the EGR cooler can go bad, I'm searching for a good post that would explain why to do the oil cooler at the same time, I remember reading about it but can't give a concrete reason off the top of my head. I'll get back to ya if I find something, I just remember reading that when one fails the other usually isn't far behind.
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...ow-bottle.html Post # 13 might persuade you, but read the whole thing. Post # 6 would be enough for me to do it. BTW not to sound like a jerk but the Search feature will give you what you're looking for, most of the time. Good luck!
My understanding is that coolant passes thru the oil cooler first and then into the egr cooler. What I am not understanding is how a leak in the egr cooler would cause a failure in the oil cooler. Can anyone explain this or am I asking the wrong question?
